Bentley School Artroom News

Hello Bentley School Families my name is Mary Tuttle and I started this year as the new art teacher for the Bentley School. This fall the art room is busy with regular art classes for all students K-5 and art enrichment periods for 1/3 of the classes. This school year every class K-5 will be having an additional art, music or science enrichment period each semester. Students who have art enrichment in semester 1 may rotate to music enrichment semester 2 and science enrichment during semester 3. These enrichment periods allow the specialist teachers additional time to work on special projects that cannot be accommodated during regular class time. The art room enrichment periods will be used to take the students on an Art Time Traveler journey looking at art from the Medieval Times to Surrealism. Each grade level will touch down in at least 2 time zones to look at art and artists of the period.

In regular art class students are settling in to a new school year and getting to know me, and my routines. We have and will continue to explore the elements of art. We began in all grades with color and I was thrilled to see how much your students already knew. Many earned "Monabucks" (ask them about these) displaying their knowledge and will continue to do so throughout the school year. I will have many of these color works on display in the school. I hope you will stop in and introduce yourself. I am working hard to remember students names so please don't be offended if I don't recognize a name right off the bat. I truly appreciate your interest in the art room and want to know how your child is adjusting to this big change at the Bentley School. I am grateful every day to be able to work with your children and explore and discover through art.

Thank you, Mrs. Tuttle

The Art Room Can Use Your Donations

Paint shirts are always needed, please bring in any old t-shirts that you may want to get rid of and we will be sure to make use of them.  T-shirts are best, as they can be pulled over the head with little effort…no buttons please.

This spring we will be hosting our annual Bentley Art Show and this years theme will be constructed around the Trash Menagerie exhibit at the Peabody Essex Museum. If you get a chance I highly recommend checking it out with your families, there are wonderful art objects and interactive exhibits using recycled objects. With this theme in mind students will begin constructing the Bentley Trash Menagerie this spring.

In preparation I will be asking for students to bring in their own recycled objects for our collection. If you have old electronics pieces, cards, toy parts, caps, brightly colored plastics, paper rolls etc. to donate to this cause I will place a collection bucket outside the artroom for your students to deposit their collections. I would ask that you not include anything dirty, made of glass or anything with sharp points so that we can insure the safety of our students.

Many thanks in advance and I look forward to meeting you!
Mrs. Tuttle
